“Borderings” is a series of handmade paper works, exploring the semiotics of shadows created by wrought iron and the color blue. Within the context of translation, “bordering” describes the process of delineating differences, thereby creating space for meaning-making.
A shadow is: the translation of an object
A change in temperature
Fleeting
Illusive
Obscuring
Deformation
A fence/guard is the demarcation of the public/private ,
the inside/outside,
it draws a border.
Shadows cross these demarcations, deforming line and shape, extending/breaking the limit the object imposes.
The works were made with the support of the Marabeth Cohen Tyler Paper/Print Fellowship at Dieu Donné in Brooklyn, NY.
